This movie doesn't pass many qualifications... To be better from equal point of view, almost everything needs to be changed. They could have given the Dragon a voice and made her the housekeeper/jailer of Fiona, and they could have had discussions about things. I mean, for how long has she lived there? Who feeds her?
Where are all the non-white people? I mean, one COULD think Fiona and Shrek are "colored", but when they are not ogres, they are white. So, no. There are no colored people.
The three blind mice are very stereotypical and their blindness is like a running gag. People who are different are ruthlessly mocked.
And there is not even ONE female writer among the EIGHT involved! There are only TWO voice roles for women, and one of them is Fiona, the other a double role; the woman who tried to sell Donkey + a woman in the audience. Donkey and Shrek does most of the talking in this movie. Now, they are funny, but there could have been more females! The cast is underwomanned, the crew is underwomanned... *sigh*
Not even the fact that Fiona kicks ass and is "the scariest thing in the forest" doesn't make her a feminist icon. She bought the "princesses are supposed to be pretty and submissive and passive and just wait to be rescued and marriage is the end goal" garbage, even though that IS the point with her - because she bought it, she almost gets into really big trouble. But on the other hand, if she hadn't bought it, she would never have met Shrek, and he IS her "true love" and the marriage IS the prize, it's just marriage with Shrek. And this is repeated over and over again in every Shrek movie. Not even in the fourth installment where Fiona rescues herself, is she allowed to be happy without a man. No, Shrek rescues her even in that movie and we are taught again that a woman's happiness is to lie on the arms of a man. So, no. *sigh*
But I still love it :-) I love all of these. These two remind me of my husband and me, and it's kind of watching our story again and again :-)

One thing; Fiona eats. Not much, and then she gives her food to Shrek, but she eats. That doesn't happen often.
And Fiona fights.
X Gender Safety:
The ogres are presented as ugly. The short Farquard is mocked. Ugly, fat Fiona is to be punished and put out of people's sight back to the tower. Mommy Bear is killed and made into a rug. Gingerbread Man is tortured.

The movie is full of sexual innuendos, comments on appearance, intimate references, obscene language. Several guys get their balls kicked, punched, hit, hurt... Unsolicited advances.
